My daughter seems to get bad breath when she is sick too! I use vapor rub on the kids all the time....they do have a baby one that is a bit milder but if all you have is regular it works just fine!
I hear that putting it on their feet works best anyway! As for the bad breath I think that this is typical with congestion!

The bad breath is from all the gunk being in their nasal passages. I hope he feels better soon
