Seventh Generation Free and Clear Starter Kit Giveaway

"In our every deliberation, we must consider the
impact of our decisions on the next seven generations."

From The Great Law of The Iroquois Confederacy

Ever since I became a mother, cleaning the house is more about making sure that natural products are used which help make surfaces cleaner than ever. Before I was a mom, cleaning meant making the whole house smell floral or sweet. Little did I know that all of those fumes were probably very bad for me and my household!!

I started on a quest for pure laundry detergent. I didn't like the idea of Dreft because it still contained perfumes and some of the others just seemed cheap to me. Thats when I found Seventh Generation! I had been using their paper towel and baby wipes but why not their laundry detergent was beyond me. Dexter's clothes are so clean and nice and I don't have to worry about his eczema flairing up because of dyes or perfumes. I wash all of Dexter's things in Seventh Generation Free and Clear with the exception of his Fuzzi Bunz!

I love the statements that Seventh Generation prints on their packages. They are so powerful. Could you imagine, 27,000 homes could be heated AND cooled for a whole year if every household changed their current petroleum-based detergent with one made my Seventh Generation (just once!!) That is insane!

I have used a multitude of Seventh Generation products and I have really liked each one. I like their paper towels a lot because they are not only made of recycled materials but they are extra absorbent. My husband would like me to point out that they aren't that soft though because he tried using them to blow his nose! LOL

How is this thought.....

Thank you to the amazingly generous people over at Seventh Generation, you, my lucky readers will have the opportunity to win a $50 Free and Clear Starter Kit! The kit contains the following items:

Free & Clear Natural Glass & Surface Cleaner
Free & Clear Natural All Purpose Cleaner
Free & Clear Natural Dish Liquid
Free & Clear Natural Laundry Detergent, 50 oz
(2) Natural Paper Towels - 120 Count
Reusable Tote

All you have to do to win is head over to Seventh Generation and find one fun fact that I have not shared here! It can be anything but make it good! If I really like it, I will give you 2 entries!!

Would you like extra entry opportunities?
*Enter to win a Klean Kanteen each day (get one entry per day that you enter)

Both Tide and Seventh Generation offer 2X laundry liquids in a variety of sizes. Tide 2X has 25oz, 50oz, and 100oz. bottles with average prices in food, drug and mass at $5.13, $6.51, and $12.41 respectively. Seventh Generation offers a 32oz, 50oz, and 100oz. bottles retailed at $5.80, $8.23, and $14.34 respectively.

Neither laundry liquid brand contains phosphates. Seventh Generation laundry liquids do not contain bleaching agents or optical brighteners. Our laundry liquids are also based on renewable resources such as palm kernel oil; instead of petroleum and its by-products. Seventh Generation laundry liquids will biodegrade more completely then the current Tide formulation. Premium brands such as Seventh Generation typically perform at 85-90% of Tide. Economy brands (such as Arm & Hammer) typically perform at 75-80% of Tide.

I learned about 7th gen tampons. For daily use, light flow, or as tampon backup, our pantiliners are convenient, discreet, practical, and chlorine-free. Features secure, no-slip adhesive and a soft, cloth-like cover for comfort. Well if that isn't interesting!

DID YOU KNOW: one out of 9 trips to the Doctor involves allergies, including one in every 5 visits to a pediatrician? This is SO scary it is well worth using responsible products such as Seventh Generation.

Their kitchen cleaner comes in wild orange and cedar spice. Now that sounds absolutely awesome. I love anything citrusy scented. Orange smelling cleaners almost make cleaning fun. Almost. Almost.

I keep hearing about the 2nd generation products and would love to try them and compare them to the Shaklee stuff I have been using.

Thanks for having the giveaway!

I like that their 2X Concentrate Liquid Laundry Detergent is specially formulated to remove soil and stains in COLD water, and reduces CO2 emissions. Using COLD water while doing laundry can save up to $70 a year in energy bills! :-)

Here's a fact that I liked because, being from Michigan, I spend a fair portion of the year blowing my nose (either due to a cold or an allergy)!

If every household in the U.S. replaced JUST ONE box of 85 sheet virgin fiber facial tissue with Seventh Generation's 100% recycled facial tissues, we would save 280,000 trees!!! andreaokeefe@gmail.com

Well, I have a hard time with the CEO of this company ever since I saw a clip from a morning news show about Green Myth Busting. He claims that cloth diapers aren't as eco friendly as people thing and it's just as wasteful as using disposables. I beg to differ but I do have to hand it to them that they do create products to help the environment. They just need to educate their CEO. haha

I am a MAJOR Tree hugger, so I thought this was a FUN and interesting fact that I Found on the Seventh Generation Website:

According to the Native Forest Network, the average mail recipient receives some 560 pieces of junk mail a year, and simply tosses almost half of it. That’s adds up to 4.5 million tons of unrequested bulk mail sent each year, or the destruction of 100 million trees.

Fortunately, there are steps you can take to dramatically reduce the mayhem in your mailbox:

* To stop the flow of credit-related offers, request that credit reporting agencies, the chief source of names for mailing lists, stop sharing your information.
* Visit the Direct Marketing Association's (DMA) Mail Preference Service and request that your name be removed from the mailing lists used by its member companies.
* Do the same at DirectMail.com, a similar service.
* If you help manage a business, join the EcoLogical Mail Coalition. This organization operates a free business mail preference service similar to the DMA’s above.
* Selectively reduce the catalogs you receive. Simply register your address, and search the master list for catalogs you want to stop receiving. You can update your preferences at any time.
* A similar service is available from Stop the Junk Mail. Unlike the others, this organization charges $20 for its services. The advantage here comes in the form of additional perks like help with companies that fail to honor your request to be removed from their mailing lists.

I learned:One of the country's first self-declared "socially responsible" companies, Seventh Generation is a business that operates according to a new and different set of principles and values that in many ways are a marked departure from those long considered "traditional." Its business practice is focused on offering people avenues to express their idealism, passion, and commitment to causes larger than themselves at every point along its supply chain—from suppliers and partners to shareholders, customers and its own staff.

Synthetic waxes, polishes, and furniture spray products typically contain more unsafe ingredients than most other kinds of cleaners. Polish wood surfaces with a solution of one teaspoon lemon juice in two cups of vegetable oil. Add a small amount to a dry cloth, rub it into the grain, and buff

You should use a chlorine-free dish detergent because the chlorine can vaporize and escape into the air of your home. I personally don't even like using bleach because of the chemical fumes, but I never thought about the dish washer.
