Duo Press has been creating innovative children's books for quite some time now. They have a wonderful series of cool counting books that feature several large US cities such as New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. They also have a couple of cute board books that feature sounds.



Sounds tough is a really engaging book. Dexter loves the fact that there are trucks, trains, planes and construction equipment featured throughout the book. Each of the vehicles makes a "tough noise" that helps to teach children sounds. The train says Choo Choo, the firetruck says Roooo Roooo and the concrete mixer says Sloooosh. I like that the book is interactive. It helps teach Dexter all of the sounds and noises from everyday items. He loves repeating them. Some of the pages also feature animals which is another bonus. For instance, the firetruck scares a cat out of the tree and the backhoe scoops up a turtle. Dexter loves finding the animals on the pages. This book retails for $6.95



123 Philadelphia is a really neat book. They feature Philly landmarks all while teaching counting. I love the concept of this book. One can count 1 Liberty Bell, 3 balls (sports), 4 letters in LOVE (the city of Brotherly Love, and 5 buildings from the landscape of Philadelphia. I only wish I could have drooled while counting 10 steak sandwiches. Dexter is getting really good at pointing out the different numbers. He seems to love the number 2, go figure! This book retails for $8.95
