What Brings Comfort and Joy to My Life?

When I think about how lucky I feel on any given day I can't help but be comforted by the life that I lead.  I have always dreamed of being the mother of boys and surrounding myself with legos, trucks and dirt.  My dream has come true.

Most of you know that 3 weeks ago I gave birth to my second son, Oliver.  He is so tiny and perfect and looking into his eyes warms me throughout.  Dexter has been a handful lately but there are times when Dexter comes over and tells me that Oliver is "toot" that melt my being.  They are the loves of my life and I couldn't be happier.  Joy always seems to rear it's head when my boys are around and my house is constantly filled with joyful noise!

Recently both boys had the stomach flu and that was not an easy feat dealing with this in our house.  There are a number of things that help comfort me when I am sick and those things would be chicken noodle soup and instant mashed potatoes.  Weird, I know but that is what works.  My husband, being the talented chef that he is makes unbelievable chicken noodle soup.  I love homemade noodles!  It didn't take long for Jason to get to work on some soup for Dexter.  This made me smile because it helped to make him feel better and watching him being comforted by his Daddy brought Joy to my day!  Lets talk about the strange affinity I seem to have for instant mashed potatoes.  I don't know where that came from but it is something that ALWAYS makes me instantly comforted.  I heap it into a bowl and put an insane amount of real butter on top to create butter puddles!  YUMMY!

I have this amazing memory from childhood that revolves around Cream of Broccoli soup.  When I was young I really hated going to the dentist.  What kid doesn't?  Well to lessen the blow my mom always made Cream of Broccoli soup for me to make me feel better because it is one of my favorite things in the planet.  I remember one time I was all numb and I tried eating my liquid gold but it kept dribbling out of my mouth.  That didn't stop the soup from comforting me but it did slow how fast the reward could be shoveled into my mouth!

I am not sure why food always seems to be the comforting things in my life but I am glad that simple things can bring such pleasure to me and my family.
