Ebeanstalk Toy Review

Recently, ebeanstalk sent me a set of iPlay Stack and Nesting Buckets. I gave them to Dexter for his birthday and I kid you not, they are now his favorite toy. He is a stacker by nature. He loves to stack, sort and throw the buckets around. There are a few things, as a mother and elementary educator, that I love about this product.

What I love about it:
*That it reinforces the concept of colors and sizes
*Teaches order. Biggest to smallest and smallest to biggest
*Engages Dexter in creative and imaginative play
*Sturdy and Durable
*The bottoms of the buckets have corresponding numbers for numerical stacking
*All the stacking toys and sorting shapes fit nicely in the bucket and a cover for convenient carrying

Ebeanstalk is a toy website dedicated to selecting the best toys by age and kids toys. The in-home feedback of bloggers and moms like me around the country help to make sure ebeanstalk continues to provide the best educational toys for your child. Check it out for yourself!

Fashion Undercover

Fashion Undercover sounds like a swanky show on TLC doesn't it? Mysterious and elusive yet exciting. Well, it happens to be the name of a website that carries some pretty unique clothing and jewelry. My favorite flower ever is the Calla Lily. I think they are gorgeous! Check out their awesome Calla Lily pearl necklace.

Since I am pregnant with baby number 2, I will start showing sooner, its inevitable. Fashion Undercover carries a variety of cute clothing that could easily work double duty as maternity wear. They sell bohemian dresses and sweet Kurtis which are tunics! I think this one would look great with my baby bump underneath, what do you think?

**This is a sponsored post. I did receive compensation for writing this post but the opinions are all mine and I was not directed to write anything in particular. These pieces are actually my favorite!**

Happy Birthday Dexter

I got all choked up today thinking about how this will be Dexter's last birthday having Mommy and Daddy all to himself. I cried about it a lot. Maybe its the hormones in me raging around but maybe part of it is disbelief. I cannot believe that my baby is 2!! He is so big and cute. My wish for him is that he will grow up with love in his heart and sensitivity on his side. I want him to grow into a man any woman would be proud to marry. I try hard to instill great values into him. Here's to my sweet boy! Dexter, I love you! (Pardon the iffy picture, it was taken on my iPhone)

Halo Sleep Sack Review and Giveaway {closed}

I am not necessarily an over-protective mother but I am anal retentive. I hate to let Dexter grow up too fast. That being said, Dexter has slept in a Sleep Sack since he was born. I had one that was 12-18 months that was too small for him but I kept him in because it prevented him from crawling out of his crib. Time was up and I needed to go on a mission to find a toddler sleep sack! As if that was going to be an easy mission, right? Well much to my shock and delight I discovered that Halo, the brand that I have trusted for so long, now makes Big Kid's Sleep Sacks!!

At first I wasn't sure about the fact that there are foot holes so that kids can put their feet out of the Sleep Sack. I thought it would distract him and let him figure out a way to crawl out of the crib after all. I was wrong and I am so glad that I was. The only thing he would do is stick his feet out enough to whip his socks off before his nap!

Sleep is very important and now that I have another baby on the way (Yay!!!!) I am going to have to get some more infant/newborn Sleep Sacks. They give me piece of mind knowing that my baby will not get tangled up in blankets and suffocate! That sure is a parent's worst nightmare!

The wonderful people at Halo would like to give one DSSM reader their choice of Sleep Sack! They even make an organic blanket! Just head over to Halo and pick out which sleep blanket you would like to win and in which size/color. Come back here and tell me your choice and leave your email address if it isn't in your profile.

Juice Beauty Review and Giveaway {closed}

I never really gave my skin the credit or attention it so rightfully deserves. I have basked in the sun for hours without any sunscreen and I haven't moisturized, well, ever.

Even though I am 28 I have started to see a few laugh lines around my eyes and across my forehead. I still get a white head here or there and I am now awake. I need to act fast if I want to look radiant in my 30's and beyond. Enter in Juice Beauty! They sent me their Organics to go skin care kit for review and whoa was I impressed.

This kit contains a creamy milk cleanser, refreshing hydrating mist, exfoliating green apple peel, vitamin rich-antioxidant serum and lightweight nutrient moisturizer. Also includes a bonus gift, a luxurious, soft, organic bamboo face cloth. The first thing I noticed about these organic treats was the fact that they are loaded with antioxidants. We all know how good they are for us to eat, well wait till you see what they can do for your skin!

Being a person with combination skin, I wasn't totally thrilled with the Milk Cleanser. It is really heavy and rich. It made me worry about breakouts. I am head over heels excited about the antioxidant serum and the hydrating mist. The hydrating mist is light and pleasant smelling. It is not oily or overpowering. The antioxidant serum is the first product that I reviewed that I rushed out to buy once the sample was gone. Not only did it make my skin look and feel better but it also made my pores noticeably smaller! It works so well even my husband commented on my nice skin!

Thanks to the wonderful people at Juice Beauty, you too can treat your skin to the Organics on the Go Kit. One lucky winner will win this $45 value! All I would like you to do is head over to Juice Beauty and pick out another item that you would like to try. Come back here and tell me that item and leave me your email address if it isn't in your profile!!

Zehn Naturals Review and Giveaway {Closed}

I deal with a lot of companies every day whether it be for work or for blogging. I have never been more over-the-top impressed with the customer service and friendliness that radiates from Zehn Naturals. I am overwhelmed by how generous, fair and thorough they are. When they said in their "About Us" section that one of their keys to success is that they "Provide fabulous customer service to EVERYONE!" They certainly were not kidding.

The lovely Tiea of Zehn Naturals was generous enough to send me the Love is a Verb shirt for review.

I picked it out because I love the meaning behind it. To love is to act which also brings me back to another cute story. When I was little, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother (who is now 94). She has never once uttered the words I love you to anyone. She always said, you shouldn't have to tell someone I love you if you do a good enough job of showing them. That has always stuck with me. Do I tell my husband and child that I love them? Um, yeah. Its nice to hear once in a while, don't you think? Does my gramma have a point? Absolutely....Love is a Verb.

Each month, Zehn Naturals picks one shirt to coincide with an organization/charity that they support. Each month, they designate one shirt and the proceeds from that shirt help to benefit that charity. This month, guess what? The Love is a Verb is that shirt. For each Love shirt that they sell this month, 10% of the proceeds will help benefit a local Community Kitchen in New Hampshire. I almost typed New Hampshirt. haha

What I love about Zehn Naturals:
The giving is just one thing that I love about Zehn Naturals. They also give 10% of their profits to larger charities that help benefit others. Also, for each tee that they sell, they plant a tree! How eco-responsible is that? ZN is also an employee-owned company that is built upon principles such as: "we do what we say, we spread prosperity and good will, we support world community and we have fun" Who wouldn't want to purchase from a company supports the greater good?

What I love about their shirts:
*Made with 100% Organic Cotton
*Made with Eco-Friendly Inks
*Made with Wind Power
*They are soft as a baby's butt.

When I said that Zehn Naturals was a generous company, I wasn't kidding. They also sent this pimp shirt for my husband. It's their Live Green shirt.

He was born and raised in New Hampshire, where their motto is "Live Free or Die". I love their spin on this motto, its priceless. My husband wears his shirt all-the-time. It fits him perfectly and I love rubbing my face on it!

I am stoked because today the lovely ladies at Zehn Naturals would like to give one DSSM reader a tee of their choice. I would love for you to visit their lovely site and pick out which shirt you would like to win. Come back here and tell me which shirt you would like and if you tell me why you might get bonus points! Leave your email so I can contact you if you win!

Aminals Review and GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)

Dexter is a typical boy. He likes pirates, loud noises, growling and eating. He thinks it is funny when he farts (thanks to Daddy) and he loves to climb and get into trouble. That being said, he doesn't really take to any stuffed animal or doll. That is, until he was sent Liun.

Liun is an Aminal and he (and his other friends) are 100% organic! How lovely is that? Aminals are inspired by the colorful and expressive drawings of children. Each comes with its unique story and Liun's story is no exception.

Dexter loves carrying his Liun around by the tail and the leg. He growls at it and whips him around like a friend. I think our dogs are pleased because they are left alone thanks to Liun. I am sure they would give him an award if they could. What impresses me the most about the Aminals is the fact that they are also compostable. Not only that but the company tells you how to go about composting your friend. Read all about it HERE.

Would you like to adopt your very own Aminal? Well, its your lucky day because I have one up for grabs. Please head over to Aminals and tell me which one you would like to win and who you would give it to. Leave your email address so I can contact you if you win! If you are not the lucky winner, you can purchase your own Aminal for $24.99.

Beckons Organic Review and GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)

Ever since I started my Kettleworx workouts, I started looking for nice, organic workout clothing that is easy to move in and breathable. I hate being hot (which I always am) and I assume that has something to do with the fact that I really don't like to workout. I was shopping a few weeks ago when I came across Beckons Organic. They are a wonderful company that creates beautiful, eco-conscious yoga-inspired clothing for women and men that transitions beautifully from practice to play.

What I love about Beckons, other than their vivid organic yoga wear, is their philosophy. They believe in kindness for our planet so they only use sustainable organic cotton to create their clothing. All their items are even made in the USA which helps keep jobs where we need them most.

I was lucky enough to get to review their Wisdom Fold Over Women's Yoga Capri. I chose the color ocean because I love vibrant, inspiring colors. I was over the moon with the comfort and breathability of these capris. They feature a fold over waist (which you can love if you are pregnant or love a covering over your Mama Pouch) or you can fold them down and show off your toned waist (and in that case, I hate you!)

These capris also have a wide leg and a slit up the back made out of tshirt woven fabric. Talk about comfort! It was cute because I was wearing these the other day, after my workout and Dexter came running over to me and he grabbed my pants. He lifted up the slit part and said "broke" I laughed so hard because he thought that my pants were broken! Oh man was that funny!

The only thing I didn't particularly care for with these capris is that they seem to be made to wear with panties. When I work out, I like to just wear my yoga pants. The ones I always wear have a built in crotch liner so that you don't have to wear undies. I like that a lot. Although I did wear these sans undies, the seam in the inside made it a little difficult. Would I consider this a huge caveat? The answer is no. I am sure many people wear panties (I hate that word for the record) while they workout. If I was at the gym you best know that I am sporting some granny pannies....Would I recommend these pants? Heck yes I would. They are, first and foremost, ORGANIC. They are breathable, light and comfortable. They are made in the USA and they fit perfect. What more can you ask for?

I am so excited because they lovely people at Beckons Organic would like one lucky reader to win a pair of capris for yourself. You can choose either of the three that they make. Its your pick! How nice is that? For your initial entry I ask that you head over to Beckons Organic and pick out which pair of capris you would like to win. Come back here and tell me the style and color of your choice. THEN also tell me another item you like of theirs. They have many to choose from so the decision will be hard! Leave your email address in your comment (or public profile).

Organic Batter Blaster Review and Giveaway {closed}

I am in love with breakfast. I can gorge myself on french toast and sausage, omelets and bagels, donuts and hash browns. I LOVE IT ALL! I was perusing the internet the other day, as I usually do and I came across something that made me stop.dead.in.my.tracks. Enter Batter Blaster. I did some investigating and found out that not only is Batter Blaster organic (frick yeah!!) but it is housed in a whip cream type dispenser for us lazy breakfasters. I wondered how this product would taste so I contacted them and voila, they sent me a coupon to try their product.

Fast forward to this past week. Mr. Dexter has turned into a ridiculous eater. I swear I can only get him to eat cottage cheese, bananas and apples. Occasionally I get lucky with raisins and hot dogs but I digress. I picked up a can of Batter Blaster at Meijer (retails for $4.49) and I brought it home to give it a go. Jason made the first batch for D. He shook and shook the can and made one huge pancake. It didn't go over very well. D ate a few pieces but was more entranced with the all natural Vermont maple syrup than anything else (go figure).

Yesterday I gave it a go. I made two smaller pancakes and heres the trick, I left them whole. I turned my back on D for a few minutes to make my omelet and when I looked back at him they were GONE! I am not going to lie to you. I did take one bite because I HAD TO for review purposes. They were bloody good. Light, airy, somewhat sweet. Perfection in a can. I am in love with the convenience and the fact that they are 100% organic.

You can no longer tell me that you don't have the time for breakfast when you have a can of Batter Blaster magic in the fridge. How would you like to win a coupon for a free can? Two lucky winners will each receive a coupon. Just leave a comment telling me your favorite breakfast food. Make me drool, will ya?

10 Great Tips for Creating a Fun Family Vacation Free of Distractions

I love being asked thought-provoking questions. It forces me to think and be creative. TwitterMoms recently asked me what 10 Great Tips I had for Creating a Fun Family Vacation Free of Distractions. I thought about it and I came up with these:

1. Organize the car for road trips so that all toys/snacks/crafts are easily accessible without taking your seatbelt off
2. Why not bring along a DVD player and some DVDs? They are great for kids and a God-send for parents
3. Get the kids their own map (free from AAA) so they can "help" give directions
4. Keep a few dollars in coins and bills handy for tolls. You can even put the kids in charge of counting out the correct change
5. Bring a cooler along so you can have cold, healthy snacks such as yogurt, juice and sandwiches. Way better than Mickey Ds
6. Play Games. I love the ABC game where you look for all the letters, in order, on different road signs and license plates
7. Stop and play tourist. If you see something interesting, stop and take a look. Everyone likes to stretch a little and its a great photo opp.
8. If you don't have a portable potty chair, you must get one. No one likes to poop in strange places. That is so not fun. I remember a few years ago, when my MIL was picking up her grandkids for a holiday and they were in the middle of a highway and my niece had to poop. There was no where to go and it was a dire need. She ended up going in a paper bag! Don't be caught in that situation. It makes for funny stories but she didn't think it was funny at the time! lol
9. Pillows are a MUST for traveling. They make it easy to sleep in the car and when you get to your destination. No one sleeps well on hard hotel pillows!
10. Last but not least, play lots of music. You can take turns holding different "microphones" and singing. You can pretend you are on American Idol and have the rest of the family be the judges. Too fun!

Remember that safety is a top priority so always keep your eyes on the road and your seatbelt on. Here is a picture that I LOVE of Dexter's first real car trip. He is an angel when he sleeps!

Remove from heat and add in chopped Equal Exchange chocolate bars. Allow them to melt for 3 or 4 minutes and then whisk chocolate and cream mixture together. Add chopped almond and stir (optional). Transfer melted chocolate to a fondue pot and serve. If mixture starts to become more solid you can add additional cream, 1 tablespoon at a time to bring it to your desired consistency.

*I received some lovely chocolates and coffees in exchange for this post. I was under no obligation to post this positive review. I just fell in love with their chocolates and thought that I would share this info with you**

The Children's Place Review

Hello, my name is Maggie and I am a shopaholic. I am completely, 100% addicted to buying clothes for Dexter. Me, not so much. Perhaps once I meet my goal weight, but for now, Dexter is my priority. I love it when he looks good. People are always complimenting me on his outfits no matter where we are. I have old ladies come up to us in the grocery store to tell me he is handsome and his (shirt, pants, shoes etc) are too much! I LOVE IT!!

Almost all of Dexter's clothes come from The Children's Place. Have you checked out their new Spring Line yet? If not, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Here is my absolute FAVORITE outfit ever! I will not stop until Dexter is wearing this for Easter (yes, he will wear the jeans!)

Right now their Spring Classics are 25% off until February 8th so you will have to hurry to get this outfit in time for the discount but if not, paying retail to look that amazing isn't bad either. Here are a few of my other MUST HAVES:

The Children's Place also has some absolutely adorable Valentine's Day clothing too. Who wouldn't want their little man donning this shirt?

Here are a few pictures of Dexter rocking a few of the Valentine's Day polos and their sweet green tie-dye Spring polos:

Did you notice something different? Daddy cut all of Dexter's hair!! I was at work and I freaked out! I knew it was coming but I miss his curls!! He looks more like a little man!! Its hard to believe that he will be two on the 25th!!! Oh my!

***The Children's Place sent the polos for review purposes. The opinions expressed in this post are mine and I was under no obligation to post a positive review**

My Husband is Outta His Mind

About 3 months ago, my husband was laid off from his job. He worked as the IT guy at a dentist's office. Before that, he was a chef for 13 years. I love his cooking. He even cooked all of our food for our wedding reception! He barely broke a sweat. He is amazing.

I don't know about you, but if you have ever had an unemployed spouse, it sucks. Don't get me wrong, I love having him home, but he is miserable. He feels like he isn't doing enough to support our family (WHATEVER!) and he says he is stir-crazy. Well, the reason I am posting this is because he wants to open up a restaurant! I was like Oh My Gawd! I mean, 85% of restaurants fail within their first year. Is he talented enough to pull it off? Heck yes. Does he have the drive? Oh yeah. Do I think he is crazy? Frick ya!

Think about all the costs....Building Space, Commercial Kitchen Parts, Staff, Appliances, Odds and Ends, Utilities, etc etc etc.

I think he's nuts. What do you think?

A friend of mine asked......

"What makes people want another kid when they already have a little one?"

I didn't even think about the response I gave her. I just typed and this was my response.

"Hmm....I can't wait for you to be able to answer that question. I miss the sweet baby smell, the cuddliness of pure innocence, the attention people gave to me (I'm not gonna lie, its nice to have someone else cook, clean and wait on me for a change). I love it all. I love shopping for baby stuff and reviewing baby products. I cannot tell you how being a mother changes you because IT DOES. My life now has purpose and direction. My heart now has the ability to love freely and completely.

I look at Dexter and I would not want him to grow up in this world without a partner in crime. I want him to have a sibling who will bail him out when he needs it, listen to him and comfort him when Jason and I aren't around. I want for him nothing less than the perfect life and we both know that isn't possible. Call me crazy! I am young and while I am still able to bear children, I will have one more so to ensure that this whole family gets another member who will fit in seamlessly and help us all to be better people.

Was that the answer you were looking for?"

HOW WOULD YOU HAVE ANSWERED THAT QUESTION?
