Nestle Drumstick brand Heroes Contest and Giveaway (closed}

If you know a selfless child or teenager who has made a difference in the lives of others, here's a way to reward their dedication and determination.  This summer the Nestlé Drumstick brand is celebrating young people who have accomplished amazing things both large and small. Beginning May 14, 2010, adults can nominate outstanding kids as part of the Nestlé Drumstick brand Heroes Contest.  Fifty winning kids will be awarded the ultimate summer celebration, complete with enough
Nestlé Drumstick sundae cones and a fun-filled party package to host an unforgettable event for up to 50 family and friends.

"This is the second year that the Nestlé Drumstick brand team is recognizing and rewarding young people who are making a positive difference in their communities," said John Harrison, Official Ice Cream Taster for the Nestlé Drumstick brand.  "Entries will be judged on the child or teenager's accomplishments, as well as the originality and creativity used to achieve their goals."

Last year's winners expressed kindness beyond their years, such as Hannah Tachouet, age 13, from Sebastopol, CA, who collected over 25 bags of clothing and $1,100 for a local women's shelter.  When delivering the donation, she learned that the shelter had no money to purchase breakfast for the week, and that many women were going hungry.  Struck by the fact
that members of her own community were going without this basic need, Hannah continues to donate to the organization, and to speak to her peers about the importance of giving.

Nestlé Drumstick Brand Heroes Contest entry forms are available to download at www.drumstick.com beginning May 14, 2010.  Submit your story (150 to 500 words), along with the completed entry form, describing why the child deserves to be honored as a Drumstick Hero.  Adults over the age of 18 may nominate children between 6 and 17 years of age who are residents of the United States.  Official contest rules are available online.  All entries must be received by September 15, 2010 to be considered.  Winning children will be notified by phone and/or mail each month throughout the length of the promotion, between the dates of June 15, 2010 and September 15, 2010.

Two Lucky DSSM readers will each win a coupon good for a box of Drumsticks.  Just tell me which flavor sounds the best to you.  You can see all of their flavors here.  Come back here and comment on your favorite flavor.

HOTmilk Maternity Lingerie Review and Giveaway {closed}

Congrats Ashley, Winning Comment #13!

I know I am a weird woman because I LOVE BEING PREGNANT!  There is something about the miracle of it all that makes me swoon.  I know that I am one of a select few that actually love this life experience.  For some of us, we feel like our bodies are being invaded and we no longer feel sensual and sexy.  That is why HOTmilk decided it was time for some sexy maternity lingerie.

HOTmilk makes exceptional bras, panties *gawd I hate that word*, camisoles and nightwear.  For review they sent me the Sweet Reminiscence Camisole and matching undies *that word is so much better*

What I love about it:
*Lordy Lordy is it ever so comfortable
*It is a breastfeeding garment
*The matching undies are NOT thongs and they are uber comfy
*I actually like wearing as it does feel nice and it isn't too showy
*The companies Knickers for Africa program (see below insert)

What I don't love:
*That it makes my hubby feel like he might actually get some.  I hate to give false hope like that...
*Price is $80 for the set

We recently had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of thousands of women who were in need of a different kind of help than what we usually provide, which as you know, is empowering women through the wearing of sexy, scintillating designer maternity lingerie! We are all a little guilty of sometimes forgetting the bigger picture and when HOtmilk became aware of a situation in Zimbabwe, we knew we could help.

A wonderful woman whom we had the good fortune to cross paths with, ex-pat Zimbabwean, Morag Roy, spoke with a local priest in Zimbabwe on one of her trips to her home country and was dismayed to hear of the ongoing sexual abuse suffered by thousands of women and young girls there, particularly in the villages. When the priest explained that by simply owning and wearing a set of lingerie the perceived status of women is elevated, Morag, was determined to do what she could. And so were we!
Over 6500 sets of brand new HOTmilk Lingerie were sent out, along with tens of thousands more which were gathered by our stockists and wearers of HOTmilk Lingerie who came on board to help out by donating good quality, pre-loved lingerie and stock over-runs. We are thrilled with the amount of support this initiative received. Our regular freight company, Express Logisitcs, were happy to come to the party and sponsored the shipping of the knickers to Africa. Thank you to all involved!

BUY IT:  Sweet Reminiscence Camisole Set

WIN IT: One lucky winner will receive the same Sweet Reminiscence Camisole Set that I reviewed valued at $80!  Just head over to HOTmilk and tell me another item of theirs that you would love to own!

HALO Organic 4 Piece Take Me Home Safety Set Review/Giveaway {closed}

Congrats Chelsea, winning comment #106!

I am getting so excited about baby number two now that I know he is a boy.  I can officially buy him the best organic goodies including sleepwear.  Dexter owns at least 4 sleepsacks and I love each of them.  They not only have helped keep him warm on chilly nights as an infant but they helped prevent him from crawling out of his crib as a toddler.

Did you know that HALO Sleepsacks also reduce the risk of rebreathing (the inhalation of carbon dioxide), which has been associated as a possible cause of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)?  I was doing a little research into organic sleepwear for newborns and I found HALO's 4 Piece Organic Layette Sets.  They are the most adorable organic cotton sets that I have ever seen!  Take a look for yourself!

  • Coverall has turnback cuffs and inverted zipper to work with the wearable blanket.
  • Bodysuit has longsleeves.
  • THE wearable blanket that carries the "#1 Safe Sleep Product" gold seal by First Candle/SIDS Alliance.
  • Wearable blanket has a generous sack design allows room for kicking, but can’t be kicked off so baby stays warm all night.
  • Inverted zipper makes diaper changes easy, won’t pinch baby’s skin and makes it harder for an older child to unzip.
  • Sleeveless design allows for ventilation and reduces the risk of rebreathing into sleeve.
  • New embroidered message on chest reminds caregivers to place baby on his or her back.
  • Machine washable and dryable with like colors.
  • Available in Cowboy, Teacup or Cats & Dog Print

You'll notice that the bodysuit (onesie), hat and pajamas are all covered in the sweetest colored polka dots and the Sleepsack has little dogs and cats all over it!  The cotton is organic so it is cream colored.  They are made with out dyes, chemicals or preservatives because HALO has your little one (and the environment) in mind.  How do you resist wanting to put a baby in these!?

HALO makes a wide variety of lovely products including the toddler sacks that I reviewed awhile back.  This 4 Piece Set would make the PERFECT shower gift or would be the perfect compliment to your baby's wardrobe.

Buy it at Amazon: Halo Innovations 4-Piece Organic Layette Set - Cats and Dogs, Small

HALO is the most caring and generous company and because they love me care about their customers so much they wanted to offer one lucky DSSM reader their very own 4 Piece Organic Layette Set valued at $55!  Just head over to HALO's website and tell me two other items that you would love to own.

How Tired Does One Need To Be In Order To Hallucinate?

My Dearest Dexter doesn't like to sleep anymore and his poor pregnant Mama is so tired that I make Eeyore look like a riot!  Not kidding!  If it weren't for my husband, I would be dead (I am sure of this because I am a sleep expert from back in the day).  I require AT LEAST 9 hours of sleep in order to be a fully-functioning member of society.  Will someone please let my son know that the reason he has been in timeout so much is because Mommy can't be super nice with only 6 hours of sleep.  I could tolerate his toddler behavior SO.MUCH.MORE if he'd just let me sleep!

Ok, I feel better now......keep your eyes peeled for 3 fun giveaways this week!

Congrats Amy, Comment #9!

Since baby number two will be arriving before I know it I have started thinking about making my own baby food.  Am I nuts?  Maybe but I remember thinking about all of the "extras" that I didn't like in the jarred baby food that I fed Dexter.  I am bound and determined to feed this baby only homemade, yummy nutritious foods.

What I didn't like:
Nothing, surprisingly I love each and every lovely aspect of this BabyCook!

Ergo Organic Baby Carrier Review and Giveaway {closed}

Congratulations to Andrea, comment #69!

When I was pregnant with Dexter I didn't give much thought to "baby-wearing".  I knew that there were carriers out there but I didn't realize that there were so many options.  I also didn't know that there were fanatics out there that branded themselves as "baby wearers".  I received a Baby Bjorn from my Sister-in-law and I used it thinking that this was as good as it got.  .........then I got an Ergo Baby Carrier.

What I love about my Ergo Carrier is the fact that it is organic!  Yep, thats right, it is made from organic cotton.  It has a lot of wonderful features too!

Organic Baby Carrier Features
  • Ergonomic design
  • 100% organic cotton twill with 100% organic cotton sateen lining and hood
  • 100% cotton batting in body of carrier to soften edges
  • One inch, high density foam in shoulder straps
  • Quarter inch high density neoprene foam in waist belt
  • High Quality buckles tested by SGS
  • Waist belt circumference from 25" to 43"
  • Fits from 5' to 6.5' body height with adjustable shoulder and chest straps
  • Sleeping hood with elastic, adjusts in length for growth of baby
  • High quality webbing, matched to carrier color
  • Reinforced stitching used at all fabric intersections
  • Interior rip-stop reinforcements at critical intersections
  • Durability/strength tested up to 90 pounds
  • Machine washable - cold, gentle cycles, mild detergent, no bleach. Dry in low heat

I was sent the Organic Twill Cranberry Carrier for review.  What I really like about this carrier, aside from the fact that it is organic, is the fact that it can support up to 90 lbs!  That means I can wear Dexter around in it!  Actually, my hubby can since I am pregnant and my back always hurts.  Ergo also makes really nice infant supports to allow one to carry their newborn around too!  It took me quite a while to get the hang of wearing this carrier (sans baby or toddler) but one I did, it was really nice.  I also love that there is a pocket in the front that allows you to carry miscellaneous items around with you.  If you are in the park with your toddler and happen to have a baby sleeping in your Ergo, you can put your keys in the carrier and lock.your.car!  Genius!

How eco-conscious is Ergo?
ERGObaby believes that organic cotton is good for you and good for nature. Our new 100% Organic cotton Carriers (including the linings, Infant Support Cushions and Accessories) are certified by Control Union Certification (formerly SKAL International). The inspection is conducted annually from the farms to the processing plant. The dyes are certified by Oeko-Tex Standard 100 to meet European standards, and by SGS to meet all U.S. Federal, State and Local Regulations, as well as being compliant with the European Standard EN 71 Part 3:1994 +A1:2000

Our Certified 100% Organic cotton is grown, processed and manufactured in compliance with Organic Fiber Processing Standards, utilizing natural agricultural methodology without the application of toxic chemicals. The emphasis is to avoid negative impact on surrounding eco-systems. Many minds and hands around the world contributed to the manufacture of the ERGObaby Organic product,... all in the spirit of preserving our planet and advancing fair labor practices.

How would you LOVE to win your very own Organic Ergo Baby Carrier?  Head over to Ergo and pick out your favorite color and comment back here letting me know which one you choose.
