If I Knew Then What I Know Now....... Microsoft Office Review/Giveaway {closed}

Congrats to comment #114 Monique.

I want to share some personal stories with you.  If you haven't noticed, I have been trying to actually "blog" more and not just list reviews/giveaways.  When I was in high school I HATED computer class.  I hated that they made me take typing and spreadsheet classes.  I thought it was soooo stupid.  This was only 11 years ago mind you.  I thought, who is ever going to need this.  Soooo, I bartered with these two boys in my class (twins) and I got them to do my computer work for me.  SCORE!

I don't want you thinking I was a crappy student because in fact, I got pretty good grades.  I just hate doing things that I don't like.  Newsflash, I am still the same way.  That is why there is a copious amount laundry (clean) piled up in my laundry room waiting for a nice folding party!

Anyway.....I am a Mac girl!  I love love love my iMac more than you know.  It is 27 inches of pure muscle.  Ok, maybe not muscle but you know what I mean!  I love everything about it.  The speed, the ease of use and the looks of this baby.  Rrrawwwrr!!  Well, I have always been a Microsoft Office girl.  I cannot function with out it.  What I like about using it on my Mac is that I am able to convert the files to .doc so I am able to send them to anyone, Mac or PC using, anytime.  How nice is that?  Microsoft Office is amazingly simple and user-friendly.  Another bonus!  Well, my super-de-duper husband asked me one day (shortly after getting our new iMac) if I was interested in using Numbers/Pages on the new computer.  I wasn't really listening to him but I said sure!  Well little did I know he erased Microsoft Office entirely from my computer.  i.could.have.killed.him.  What the hell was he thinking?  I had a small breakdown.  He paid, IMHO, way too much for this stupid program and I was yearning for Office to be back at my fingertips.  Who knew how much I would miss a word processing program!  I figured I might as well give this new program a try and I didn't get more than 5 minutes in to it and I loathed it!  That was it, I NEEDED my Office back!

This leads me to my review......I received Microsoft Office 08 for Mac for review and I am proud to say that I am whole again.  I can seamlessly create documents, add clip art and play artist by making cards/posters with Word.  I can create spreadsheets for use with my home business with Excel and I can even create fun Dora presentations to keep Dexter occupied with Power Point.  One thing I want you parents of teenagers to take away from this: stress to your children that they should be appreciative of the fact that computer training is free in school and tell them to learn all that they can because eventually they will need to know Excel and it is not as easy self-teaching as it is to just pay attention in school.  Ok, enough with my Public Service Announcement.

I would love to take some screen shots of my amazing and thorough work that I have been able to organize thanks to Excel but it contains my clients' personal information so I cannot do that but trust me, its gorgeous!

Because compatibility is essential, Microsoft has you covered:

  • Microsoft Office for Mac and Windows share the same file format and graphics engine.
  • Both feature SmartArt®, compatible graphics templates for compelling charts and diagrams.
  • Office 2008 for Mac is forward, backward, and cross-platform compatible.
  • No importing or exporting file formats, just easy compatibility.

Now I want to share with you something that makes me proud to be a Microsoft User:

WIN IT:  Who wants their very own copy of Microsoft Office 08 for Mac?  I bet you do!  This retails for $150!  What I would like you to do is watch the video above and tell me one thing you learned.  Try not to copy any one else's answers because I will be watching (big brother is always watching!)  Then, tell me which kind of computer you have that you would use this on!

ProFlowers Review

2 weeks ago I turned 29.  What an awful birthday I had.  It usually is a day of excitement, great eats and lots of drinks but this year I had none of that!  Before you start feeling sorry for me I want to tell you about my favorite present that I received!

Last week, just a few days after my awful birthday, I received some gorgeous red roses from ProFlowers.  I have reviewed flowers before but I was really impressed with the unique packaging that ProFlowers uses to pack their flowers.  The instructions were easy and it wasn't hard for me to get them out of the box and right into water.  What really impressed me was the fact that these roses lasted about 9 days!  Talk about value!

Much to my surprise (because I forgot it was two-fold) the next day I received a dozen chocolate covered strawberries!  YUMMY!  I was so excited to rip into the box and go to town!  I first tried the milk chocolate dipped strawberry.  That was my favorite.  I am so surprised that the berries were HUGE and juicy.  I am usually disappointed with market strawberries because they typically lack flavor but man oh man did ProFlowers deliver (pun intended!)

Imagine sending this amazing combination birthday gift to your favorite person.  You could schedule the flowers to arrive on their birthday and then they would be shocked the next day to receive yet another elegant and thoughtful (not to mention scrumptious) gift from you.  Below is a picture of the exact berries that I received!  Look at the amazing presentation and delightful flavors.

No matter what gift you choose and whom you choose to send it to, ProFlowers delivers!  I was so impressed with the quality of my birthday gift that I will NOT hesitate to order from them in the future!

Check out these other great birthday ideas that I lurve!

Smart & Sexy Lingerie Review and Giveaway

Recently I was introduced to a company that believes that being Smart & Sexy should also be affordable.  This company is so aptly named, Smart and Sexy.  You can purchase their bras, panties and nighties online or at Walmart!  Yes, thats right!  Your neighborhood Walmart also will allow you to be Smart and Sexy.  Gotta love that!

I was sent a super cute bra/panty set that looks a lot like this one.
I thought that the bra was super comfy and I was surprised when I looked at the price tag.  The whole set retails for a mere $15!  For a bra and a pair of undies, this is a steal!  I don't do the whole thong thing so I sent them off to my friend and she said that they are really comfy.  This big girl needs more coverage than that!

I was also sent this long black gown for review and let me tell you one thing-this is a stunner.  Not only is this gown super light and perfect for summer weather but it is chic and sexy too!  This piece retails for only $14!  I don't know how they can keep their prices so low!  Honestly, the quality is far better than I imagined it would be!

Smart and Sexy wants to make you feel sexy by giving one winner $50-$75 worth of lingerie!  That is approximately 2 bra and panty sets and 1 or two pieces of sleepwear!  Because lingerie is so size specific the winner will provide their size and Smart & Sexy will send a surprise package!  How awesome is that?! Just head over to Smart & Sexy and tell me two items that you would like to win.  I will see if I can make it happen if you're the winner!

Traverse Bay Farms Giveaway

I am a Michigander.  Always have been, always will be.  I was born and raised in the UP and about 8 years ago I made the trek downstate to Traverse City.  I love it here, a lot!  Not only am I surrounded by Lake Michigan but I am also surrounded by cherry trees and wineries!  Who wouldn't love it here?!  One of my absolute favorite summertime activities is eating fruit!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE fresh cherries and peaches.  It is really bad when I am pregnant as I cannot get enough!

Lucky for me I live near a wonderful company called Traverse Bay Farms.  They are so passionate about fruit and boy you can tell.  Traverse Bay Farms is dedicated to providing innovative functional fruit products and great-tasting, fruit-based gourmet products. Their products pair the highest quality fruit with the most innovative manufacturing processes to produce gourmet fruit products.  Their salsas are award-winning and their products are very nutritious!  They make cherry juice too which is full of antioxidants which help with conditions such as gout and arthritis!  Their juice is made from 100% pure Montmorency Tart Cherries!

Fruit and Gourmet SalsasTraverse Bay Farms' Fat-Free Fruit and Gourmet Salsas are a mouth-watering combination of traditional tomato-based salsa and fresh tangy fruit, corn or black beans.. Our salsas are made in small batches with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Each of our fruit salsas are "medium spicy", and we offer six distinct gourmet fruit flavors (nutritional information is at the bottom of the page). You will love the homemade gourmet salsa taste from Traverse Bay Farms!

What else do I really admire and appreciate about Traverse Bay Farms?  A portion of profits and products are donated to support non-profit organizations supporting arthritis research, diabetic research, Lou Gehrig's disease and Epilepsy research.  A philanthropic company that cares, in my book, is priceless!

I am soooo excited to tell you that Traverse Bay Farms would like for you to win 1 jar of peach salsa and 1 jar of red raspberry salsa and one bottle of cherry juice concentrate!  The salsas were voted #1 (peach) and #3 (red raspberry) in America.  Who doesn't love that?  This is a $35+ value and they are also going to include a  free printed copy of the tart cherry health report that contains dozens of cherry recipes and teaches about the health benefits of the cherry.

WIN IT: Head over to Traverse Bay Farms and pick out two other products of theirs that you would love to try!  Come back here and comment to win!

Could You Live in an 89 Square Foot House?

Do you think that you could live in a house like this if you didn't have any kids?  I am much too claustrophobic for this but I love the doll house appeal.  How small could you go?  What would you be able to give up and what is a must?  I'd love to know as this is green living at its finest!

Nuka Maternity Review

20 days until BlogHer in NYC!  Am I excited?  Oh boy you bet I am!  I will have five days and four nights of me time blogging fun!  Even though I am leaving Dexter and my hubby at home, I will not be traveling alone.  Nuka Maternity will be coming with me!

Recently I was sent their Maternity Tunic/Dress in Ash.  This top is so not me and that is why I chose it.  I am such a tshirt and jeans girl and I thought why not branch out while preggers.  Branch out I did!  What I love about Nuka is the fact that all of their pieces are unique, stylish and ridiculously comfortable.  I love standing out in a crowd by wearing something different and being pregnant is definitely the time to shine.  I have worn my Tunic a few times and I have received rave reviews each time.

I first tried the tunic with olive green capris and it was cute and dressed down.  It looked perfect for lunch out with the girls.  It wasn't until I was talking to my uber sexy friend Becky (who just happened to have a baby a few weeks ago) that I asked her what she would wear under the tunic.  She screamed leggings!  Leggings?  I haven't worn a pair of those ridiculous things since middle school in the early 90s!  Well, on her word, I went and sought out a pair.  As soon as I got home I whipped out my leggings and tried them on with my Tunic.  Much to my surprise it was comfortable but I wasn't sure how it would look.  I asked my husband and he just looked at me and said "are those leggings"?  I couldn't help but laugh.  He admitted that although the outfit was so not me he liked it.  I made him take a few pictures of me with my iPhone so I could text them to my mom.  She freaked out!  "Oh my, those leggings fit you so well."  "That outfit is so chic."  "Every woman should own a nice pair of leggings, especially in black!"  That was it, I was sold.  Here are the pictures from my iPhone.  Forgive the quality as that is all I have right now.  Its not that easy coaxing my hubby to take weekly pictures of my belly plus extras!

I have some awesome metallic flats that I would love to wear with this outfit but my feet are less like my normal size 9 1/2s and more like shoe boxes.  They are so wide and unattractive these days.  I am sure I will figure something else out in the next 20 days!

There are several other pieces that Nuka makes that I would love to wear to BlogHer.  Here are a few of my other favorites.  This is the Nuka Henna Dress in Black.  This is the quintessential "little black dress" that every woman, pregnant or not, should own.

I also really love their Sharnee Convertible Tube Dress/Skirt in Tropics.  It is ECO-FRIENDLY!  How me is that?  Since it is made of bamboo it will be light, airy and cool.  Definitely perfect for the summertime heat!

If you are looking for something flattering, sexy and unique, look no further than Nuka Maternity.  You will be so happy that you did!

ecomom Review and Giveaway {closed}

Winning Comment #50 Carole Spring

I hope you are all aware that recently, SproutBaby changed it's name to ecomom.  If you are not familiar with ecomom than I must assume that you have been living under a rock!  ecomom sells everything from Boon items to Plum Organics baby food.  Throw a couple of cloth diapers in to the mix and you have ecomom.

ecomom was founded to help address the connection between the health of our environment and the health of our children.  ecomom is committed to making eco-conscious living easy, affordable and rewarding.  By helping women begin to take better care of themselves and their families-with education, support, tools and products-we empower them to take all the important first steps toward a healthier, more balances and sustainable lifestyle.

I have been following ecomom on Twitter for quite some time now and I love that Jody, the owner, often runs fun little Twitter specials.  Just recently I saw him tweet that the first few people to email him would receive a promo code for $20 off a $30+ order.  How sweet is that?  I just placed my order the other day and guess what, it shipped the same day.  Talk about fast, reliable customer service.

Another thing that I love about ecomom is the fact that the website contains lots of green info to help Moms become a little more green.  Take these 10 ways to make easy, affordable, eco-friendly choices for example:
  1. Don't buy bottled water
  2. Bring your own coffee cup
  3. Compost food scraps
  4. Get rid of germs, safely
  5. Care for yourself naturally
  6. Forgo paper towels
  7. Keep toxins out of your body by keeping them out of your home
  8. Play with eco friendly toys that don't plug in
  9. Nurture yourself organically
  10. Subscribe to the EcoMom newsletter
I was lucky enough to receive some Revolution Foods Mashups for review.  Having a 2 year old can be challenging and frustrating at meal time.  Dexter will sometimes eat well with a spoon and other times he gets more food on the floor and himself than in his mouth!  Revolution Foods seems to relate because they make these amazing pouches that contain organic fruit purees.  All you have to do is unscrew the top and suck the organic goodness out!  Dexter LOVES these genius Mashups and I love the convenience!  You can order a variety pack of 4 flavors for $4.99-SCORE!

Discount it: Use code SB004344 for 15% off your order!

Win it: The ecomom herself would like to give one reader the chance to win a $20 GC to use on ecomom.com!  How sweet is that?  Head over to ecomom and tell me how you would spend your $20!

22 Weeks 5 Days

Here is last week's belly picture.  I can't believe that I look so big already!  I am pretty sure that our little one's name will be Oliver Thomas.  He sure is an active baby and I cannot wait until October to meet him!  I have to get on DH to take another picture today.  Maybe I need to change the outfit I am wearing too as this is not a maternity tank (can't you tell by the length!)

Safety 1st Prism Color Video Monitor Review and Giveaway

I review a lot of products.  Very rarely am I overwhelmed by a product but it has happened.  For the FIRST TIME EVER I am speechless!  I recently received Safety 1st's new Prism Color Video Monitor for review.  I had a real shotty monitor when Dexter was a baby and I wanted to find a monitor that had audio and video capabilities.  I have done a lot of research on these video monitors and found a lot of bad reviews.  Who wants to spend hundreds of dollars on a monitor that doesn't work properly and has lots of interference from other digital devices?  NOT ME!

Since baby is not here yet and my 2 year old monster son needs more nighttime monitoring than any baby ever will, I thought I would hook it up and see how it works.  To be honest, my expectations weren't that high.  I mean, I hadn't heard of anyone liking their video monitor before.  My handy hubby hooked up the camera (plugged it in) and we chose to set it on the dresser next to Dexter's bed.  We used it, for the first time, at bed time.  This camera has night vision that has exceptional video quality and we were able to see our prince charming clearly.  The audio quality is equally as impressive.  I tried taking a picture of Dexter on the monitor but it doesn't come out that well.  Instead you will have to enjoy the picture I snagged from their website.
The Specs:

Parent Unit

  • 2.4 GHz digital technology
  • 2.5 inch screen for clear, true-to-life view
  • Remote zoom for closer view
  • Baby’s room temperature display
  • Battery option for wireless convenience
  • Alarm, date & time display
  • Quick view conserves power
  • Voice activation to turn screen back on
  • Power save mode can be set at 5, 15 or 30 seconds
  • Accepts additional cameras
  • Auto night vision
  • Brightness control
  • Sound lights bar
  • Rechargeable
  • Auto channel selector
  • Belt clip for portability
  • Low battery/out of range indicators
  • Energy saving AC adapter
  • 350 foot indoor/outdoor range

Baby Unit

  • Zooms in for closer view
  • Auto night vision
  • Battery option for wireless convenience
  • Table or wall mount option
  • Power on/low battery indicator
  • Energy saving AC adapter

What I love about this monitor:
  • Night vision makes it incredibly easy to see sleeping (if you're lucky) baby
  • Hand held monitor displays time, date and room temperature
  • Zoom-ability allows you to zoom in to see baby closer or further away
  • It is energy star rated!!!
  • Portable-one can move the whole system in a matter of seconds (as easy as unplugging the camera)
  • Can be wall mounted!
What I wish it did/had:
  • The light of the power button on the camera is a little bright and has bothered Dex a little.  I wish you could shut it off
  • I also wish that it could be a two-way audio so I could yell "Get Back in Bed NOW!" and he would hear me from downstairs
The list of wants is very short because I LOVE LOVE LOVE this monitor.  It sells for $219.00 and it is worth every penny.  Especially if you buy this with your first baby and use it with your other children as well.

BUY IT: Safety 1st Prism Color Video Baby Monitor, Black  Its only $193.68 on Amazon

WIN IT: Since this is quite the prize you will have to work a little for this one!  I ask that you follow me first and foremost on GFC.  Then, head over to Safety 1st  and tell me two things.  First, tell me another product of theirs you'd love to see a review of and tell me your favorite safety tip that they have listed on their site!
