Eyeglasses and Frames from Glassesusa.com

eyeglasses frames

The new year is upon us and, as we all know, it's the perfect excuse to buy new stuff. Christmas is in the past and now we need to find accessories for the goodies we've received. If you're like many people, your budget is probably a little tight right now and you've given up on buying things you need. Eye glasses are one of the small things in life that are often seen as a dorky luxury and not a health necessity because of the cost involved. It's time to change that. How? Easy. Buy glasses online.

When you're looking to buy fashion glasses, you may pass up the Internet as a route for getting high quality glasses. There's the old addage of "buyer beware" because the Internet is known for selling cheap goods at inexpensive prices. In order to make sure you get high quality rimless eyeglasses and to avoid returning to the eyeglasses stores in the mall, do you research before you buy. It will save you time and money in the long run.

If you're a fan of designer eyeglasses but you're not a fan of the price tag, then you should really buy glasses frames from sites that offer authentic frames. Websites will usually state on their site that their frames are authentic. Additionally, the box and cleaning cloth you recieve will not be the standard one sent from the store - it will be specialized from the designer's manufacturer.

Since retro eyeglasses were all the rage in 2010 - and the trend is carrying over to 2011 - you may want to invest more time exploring this trend if you decide to buy glasses from this genre. Not all retro frames are the same. Some "retro" frames are vintage-styled while others are from by-gone eras. The difference is less apparent when you buy mens eyeglasses since women's frames have changed dramatically over time.

Once you've found a few pairs of eyeglasses frames that you like - try them on. Really! Use the site's virtual mirror to virtually try on the frames to see how they'll look on your face. Try them before you buy them - it reduces your risk of having to return the frames.

The North Face Review

I am an absolute sucker for boys clothing.  Nothing gives me more pleasure than dressing my boys to the nines.  ZZ Top said it best "'Coz every girl crazy bout a sharp dressed man."  Who would think that dressing your children in winter clothing could be so exciting?  If you would have asked me prior to becoming a mother I would have laughed at you.  Now, I would grab a cup of coffee and talk with you about my addiction!

Earlier this winter I bought Dexter The North Face Out of Bounds Toddler Jacket.  Every time someone sees him in it they say "Oh look at Dexter in his North Face"  I know that everyone associates The North Face with quality and why wouldn't they?  My husband and I both own TNF winter jackets so it was only appropriate that I review some winter pieces of theirs.

I love love love the Denali jacket.  It looks so nice on Dexter.  It is the perfect late fall/early winter jacket.  Heck, pair it with a sweater and you can wear it just about all winter long.  I was sent the black Denali in a 3T for Dexter and it fits him perfectly!  I love how the Polartec 300 fleece is water repellent (or juice for that matter) so I don't have to wash it too often!  I also really like the elastic waist and wrists so the jacket can battened down for extreme weather.  Just look for yourself at Dexter wearing his Denali with pimpin' style!

His Denali jacket is paired with The North Face Rocket Beanie (link not working on their website).  Dexter is wearing the one size hat (a little big but I think it's perfect) and the jacket is a 3T.  I couldn't ask for a better jacket than the Denali and the Out of Bounds Jacket for that matter.  The North Face continues to be my family's favorite sporting brand and now hopefully you can see why.  Look for more TNF reviews as I try to find the perfect outfit for Oliver and the perfect camping equipment for our whole family.

2 Months Old Already!

Can you even believe that it has been two months since Oliver was born?  Time certainly has flown by.  In this time we have been to the doctor more times than I care to count (for everyone in the family), my husband got a vasectomy and we are slowly starting to adjust as a family of 4.

Oliver is the sweetest little man who can instantly make me melt with the slightest smile.  He loves to coo at me and to tell you the truth, I can't get enough of it!  I can't believe how much different this time around is compared to when Dexter was born.  Dexter wasn't colicky nor did he have eczema.  Oliver seems to be affected by my dairy intake so I am cutting back on that (except butter and a little cheese here and there).  No chemicals have touched Oliver's skin (Dexter's either for that matter) because now that I know what raising a baby green is all about, they will never touch him if I have my way.  Even though I do not want Ollie to grow up too fast, I will say that I am looking forward to making his baby food.  I didn't do that with Dexter and I wish I had.  Dexter loves avocados and I am pretty sure Oliver will too.

Someone told me to start taking Oliver's monthly picture with the same object every month so I can tell how big he is growing so here is a picture of Oliver and his new giraffe that Santa brought him!

Look at those chubby legs.  I love looking at them and thinking I MADE THOSE!  Not only did I grow him within me but I sustain and nourish him with my milk.  What a sense of accomplishment breastfeeding is.  It sure can make me appreciative of my body when I am having one of those days.  I am woman, hear me roar!

**Thank you Fibers.com for sending me these onesies, I love them!  I designed them myself and I chose all of the colors/fonts.  Fibers.com makes it easy to create your own t-shirts and onesies.  They even have big brother t-shirts for Dexter!

The best gift I ever gave was the gift of life.  I know that sounds cheesy and chiche but it is true.  I have never been so in awe of my body until I grew and birthed a child (or two).  I think that being a Mom is the best feeling and the greatest gift of all time.  Even though Dexter and Oliver are such a blessing to me I am pretty sure that my husband would also argue that they are the best gift that I have ever given him as well.  To be completely honest with you, one of the motivating factors in my decision to have a second baby was to provide a sibling for Dexter.  I wanted him to have a brother.  Someone that would be the ying to his yang, the peanut butter to his jelly.....you get the idea.  I never thought once that I would have a girl because I wanted a boy so badly.  Dexter may also argue with me that Oliver is the best gift I ever gave him.  I hope he will always feel this way about his brother.

Each person in my family could say that Dexter and Oliver are the best gifts that I ever gave them and I know they feel that way.  Hell, I feel like they are the best things I ever gave myself.  I cherish each day with my boys and I look forward to many many years of being their Mommy!

My Aspirations and Plans for New Possibilities in 2011

I cannot believe that as I write this, Christmas is next week and the New Year, well, you know.....will be here before I know it.  I was very blessed in 2010.  Oliver came into my life and my heart this year and I couldn't feel more complete.  I have big goals for 2011.

I am so happy with my little family and we feel as though our family is complete.  I will be turning 30 in July and am planning a 50 by 30 where I will make it a plan to lose 50 pounds before I turn 30.  I realize that I have just over 7 months to accomplish this so that is less than 10 lbs per month.  That doesn't seem so hard, right?  WRONG!  I love to eat and have an occasional cocktail or two so it will be a stretch but I am bound and determined to live my 30s in a healthy way.

How am I going to carry out this 50 by 30?  First I have to quit my late night indulgences (pizza, wings, Taco Bell). I have to remember that I am not pregnant any more and therefore I need to be more conscious of what I eat and do.  Next I am going to have to work out.  How I am going to pull this off while taking care of a 3 year old (February oh man!) and a new baby is beyond me but I am sure I will make it work.  I have to find a workout that is fun and doesn't require an hour of my time.  I am sure I will probably hit Kettleworx again.  Since I will not be having any more babies I am sure I can maintain my goal weight and still be able to indulge in some wonderful goodies here and there.

I've talked about my plans but what about my aspirations?  I aspire to be a better blogger in 2011 too.  I would like to vow that I will update my blog (at a minimum) of 3 times per week.  I want you to know that this is my promise as I want to be a blog that my readers can rely on for quality and consistency.  I also aspire to be a better wife in the New Year.  I don't want you to think that I am not a good wife now but I think I definitely have room for improvement.  I will start in the bedroom....

How about my aspirations as a Mother?  I know I could spend more time creating quality crafts with Dexter rather than turning on the TV but it is hard to work from home as well as outside the home AND blog while taking care of the kids.  I am not one who can wake up super early to be super-woman because I am one of those people who need at least 8 hours of sleep in order to function.  If I don't get lots of sleep, YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ME!

It looks like I have a lot on my plate for 2011 but it all starts will small steps.  2011, Here I come!

Savvy and Seeryus Holiday Gift Guide-Mudpuppy Giveaway

It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to childrens toys.  Why? Because I have seen so
many expensive and inexpensive, for that matter, toys that fall short.  When I was perusing the internet looking for unique puzzles for Dexter I was so excited when I found Mudpuppy.
They have so many amazing puzzles including the some by Eric Carle and other featuring Curious George.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Curious George block puzzle set.  The blocks themselves contain a different puzzle on each side for a total of 6 puzzles in this box.  Since this is made for little children I LOVE that each puzzle is outlined (subtly) in a different color making it easier to identify which pieces belong with each puzzle.  Genius!  This puzzle also works double duty as building blocks (Dexters idea).  I think that $15 is a steal for this puzzle set!

I also really like Mudpuppies First Puzzles such as the Where the Wild Things Are set.  I reviewed the Eric Carle set which it seems they no longer carry.  I love these puzzles too because the little box contains 16 pieces for 4 puzzles.  Thats right, 4 pieces per puzzle.  It really helps toddlers learn about puzzles because they are real puzzles but they only have 4 pieces.  I separate them for Dexter into piles so he doesn't have to get frustrated and then he is able to put them together and have a real sense of accomplishment.  It's great for his growing pride!

I would highly recommend Mudpuppy for all of your educational flash cardartist pad and puzzle needs.

How would you like to win your very own First Puzzle and Block Puzzle set?  Just head over to Mudpuppy and tell me another gift that you found and whom you would gift it to.

Aden & Anais Muslin Swaddle Blankets Review and Giveaway

Back in August when I was at BlogHer I ran into Military Mama and her baby.  He happened to have the coolest blanket and when I asked about them she said "Oh these are the Aden & Anais muslin swaddle blankets".  From that moment on they were burned into my brain as the coolest swaddles ever.  When I was about to have Oliver I was contacted by Aden & Anais and of course my burning brain asked about a review.  They were happy to oblige and now I am thrilled to tell you all about these beauties.

I am not much for copying and pasting from a website but I love the story of muslin and I really wanted to share it with you.  Just follow the link and learn about the 7,000 year old cloth.  It's pretty impressive.  For those of you who aren't sure how to swaddle Aden & Anais wants to help with that too.

I am always on the look out for items that are unique and precious.  I have given my children unique names so why would I dress them like all the other little boys I know?  I wouldn't.  They were the most amazing outfits and I pride myself on that.  Take a look at how sweet Ollie looks swaddled in his Aden & Anais blanket.
I personally can attest for the fact that these blankets are not only head-turners but they also make great nursing covers while NIP.  I received the Little Man Swaddles and I couldn't be more impressed.  Who wouldn't love a blanket that gets softer the more you wash it?  I would like to offer one DSSM the chance to win their very own 4-pack of Original Swaddles worth $45 from the generous folks at Aden & Anais.  All you have to do is head over to their website and tell me which 4-pack you love the most.  I would like you to also like Aden & Anais on Facebook.  Feel free to tell them DSSM sent you!

Did You Hear That? Musings From My Breast Pump

I distinctly remember being a new mom back in 2008 and living in a continuous fog.  Everything I did, I did tired.  This time around seems so much different.  I have been a mom now for almost 3 years and I am use to not sleeping so Oliver's schedule doesn't seem to phase me in the least.  One thing that has remained constant, however, is my talking breast pump.

When I use to pump with Dexter I could swear that I heard the breast pump say his name "Dex-ter" over and over again.  I knew it was talking to me and for some reason it didn't bother me.  Now that I am breastfeeding again I got out my trusty Medela Pump in Style Advance and went to town.  This time it didn't say Dex-ter or anything else I could understand.  How could this be?  Had I somehow upset the breast pump Gods?  After doing some research I found that I am not crazy.  Not this time anyway.  Research proves that when the human brain hears noise it systematically tries to make sense out of it thus the reason that the continuous "whoosh whoosh whooshing" of the breast pump starts sounding like words.

I posed this question to my Twitter and Facebook friends "For those of you who have used electric breast pumps: Did the suction noise ever sound like words to you?"  Here are some of the responses I got.  ENJOY!

"RuPaul, RuPaul" and "You Can Pump"-@ChicagoMaMusings

"Hi Natalie"-Natalie

"Feeeeed Me!"-Maya @MarfMom

*In a creepy whisper* "Li-ly, Li-ly, Li-ly" -Amber @upNorthMom

"Can't say it did just made so much noise it put me off and there was no let down unless I talked to Blokey about Harry Potter" HAHAHAHA!! -Vic @Vickylu1

"Jennifer" and "There You Go" -Jen

"Mine said Oprah Over and Over" -Christa

"Let it Go" -Kirsten

Now that I have read these I am thinking mine might start saying "Let it Snow" HAHA!
Did your breastpump ever talk to you?  What did it say?  I am dying to know!

Oliver is one month old!

Where have the last several weeks gone?  I know that everyone, myself included, says that babies grow up too fast and seeing as though Oliver will be our last baby, it seems particularly true.  He has gained almost 2 pounds and he is a charmer.  He melts my soul with just a glance.  I can't help but take him all in.  Each day is a new experience and he recently just started smiling.  I pray everyday that time stops and I am able to enjoy him being little forever but even I know that isn't possible.  May Oliver (and Dexter too for that matter) grow to know the most wonderful love and joy.  I hope that they become thoughtful and sensitive adults who bring immense pleasure to all who meet them!

Axel said it best:
"She's got a smile that it seems to me

Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry"

I know you want to know how Oliver got so cute and I would like to thank my husband fibers.com for sending me these amazingly cute milestone onesies.  I designed them myself and I chose all of the colors/fonts.  Fibers.com makes it easy to create your own t-shirts and onesies.  They even have big brother t-shirts for Dexter :)

DRIA Cover-Discreet Reliable Infant Accessory

I am not a shy person and I am not easily embarrassed.  As a matter of fact, it takes a lot to get me going.  As a breastfeeding mom I am, however, not a fan of nursing in public (NIP).  This has nothing to do with me and everything to do with other people.  You often hear the horror stories of women being asked to nurse their babies in the bathroom and also being asked to leave an establishment.  If this was ever to happen to me I am sure I would go nuts because who are you to tell me when and where to feed my baby?!

Not that long ago I was introduced to DRIA Cover.  What I love about DRIA is it's versatility and uniqueness.  It can be a fashionable nursing cover and also double as a car seat cover.  Wanna see what I mean?

I really like both fabric options.  The one to the left is Bristol and the fabric on the right is the Casablanca.  When I happen to find products that work to make my life easier and I always excited to give them a try.  Who doesn't wish they had an easy button?  I really wish I owned my own DRIA because it would alleviate a lot of undue stress on my NIP fiascos but I will have to continue to use my bulky and cumbersome blankets until I have a little extra money saved up.

If this isn't the most genius item you have seen in a long time then I would be shocked because DRIA blows me away!

Gummylump Melissa and Doug Work Bench Review and Giveaway {closed}

Congrats to Deb Stanton #157!

I often get asked by my IRL (real life) friends what my favorite part of blogging is.  They assume I will say the products that I receive for review.  They couldn't be further from the truth.  Even though product reviews are fun and exciting, what I really love is the relationships that I build with companies.  I really love working with companies that are true to themselves and their customers.  That is one of the reasons I love Gummylump so much!  Their customer service is second-to-none and they carry an amazing array of toys that will delight children of all ages.  Another wonderful aspect of Gummylump.com is the fact that they have the best categories in which to search their site.  You can search by Manufacturer (such as Melissa and Doug), Toy Type (wooden toys) and by character (Dora the Explorer).  I am always impressed by Gummylump and I know you will be too!

I have said it before and I will say it again I LOVE WOODEN TOYS!  That is one of the reasons that I really appreciate Melissa and Doug.  Wooden toys are eco-friendly, durable and they stand the test of time.  Wooden toys are special because they are unique and this Melissa and Doug Workbench is no exception.  I want to note that this amazing toy typically sells for $99.99 but it is now on sale on Gummylump for $79.99 and orders over $50 ship free!  Thats a great deal!  Now on to the fun part.....the review!

What I love so much about this Wooden Workbench is the fact that it closely mimics the real thing.  Dexter played with it and kept making comments about Dada.  "Dada hammer", "Dada screw" (I had a hard time not laughing at that one) and "Dada Dexter work!".  His gears were constantly turning while he was enjoying his new workbench.  I don't have any pictures of Dexter enjoying this beauty because Jason had my camera because he was cleaning my lenses and then I just forgot......bad me!
One more thing that I love about this workbench is the fact that it comes with wooden tools to play with as well as a working vice grip!  It is sweet and I know your little guy will enjoy this handcrafted delight!

I am beyond excited to tell you that Gummylump would like to offer one lucky DSSM reader the Melissa and Doug Workbench!  Merry Christmas to you (or Happy Chanukah if thats how you roll).  Please head over to Gummylump and tell me another toy that you would love to give for the holidays and who will receive this prize if you were to win!

Storkie Christmas Card Review

Before I was a parent I use to shop for the cheapest Christmas cards because I never was out to impress anyone.  The moment Dexter was born, that all changed.  Now I set out to make the cutest and best Christmas cards.  It is a tradition that Dexter wears a Ralph Lauren outfit, complete with sweater vest and now, Oliver has the same tradition to help carry on.  Unfortunately (or maybe not really) the boys were born on either side of Christmas so they can't share holiday outfits yet.  Regardless of what the boys wear I am convinces that they will always look stellar!  I am so in love and I finally feel as though my family is complete.

I was so lucky to be introduced to Storkie through the Double Duty Divas.  They allowed me to pick my Christmas photo cards and check out like I would if I was purchasing them myself.  Unlike other photo sites Storkie was so easy to use and they have a great selection of cards to choose from.  I had a hard time choosing the perfect card.  I also really like the Fancy Schmancy II card.  I chose the Snow Flakes card because I could use the two pictures of the boys that I adore.  I couldn't pick just one!

Eco-Alert--My card was printed on recycled paper!  I love celebrating the holidays all while saving the planet!

Another thing that I really like about Storkie is the fact that the cards came very fast.  I ordered them on a Friday and they were here by Tuesday.  I couldn't wait to address them and get them sent out!  If you have awful handwriting perhaps you would like Storkie to address your cards for you!  It costs a little extra but it looks gorgeous.  I chose to have my return address printed on the envelopes.  It gives that added holiday touch that I was looking for.

Today is only December 2nd so you have plenty of time to order your cards but I would suggest doing it by next Monday.  Right now the majority of Storkie's cards are on sale for $1.25 each.
FROM MY FAMILY TO YOURS, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

**I received 20 Christmas photo cards in exchange for my review.  The product did not influence my opinion and I was not obligated to write a positive review.**

Baby Sleeping Dilemma: Bassinet or Co Sleeper

Oliver is a pretty good sleeper and I am truly lucky.  He is also a very very gassy baby and I think that is the reason he doesn't like to sleep in his bassinet.  When I first had Dexter I got a bassinet so he would be able to sleep in our room with us so I could selfishly listen to him breathe at night.  I loved the closeness and I wouldn't have changed it for the world.  Naturally I would have Oliver sleep in our room with us just like Dexter.  Well, Ollie had other plans.  He never really liked his bassinet from the get-go.  Luckily I had a sleeper from Fisher Price to get the job done.  My husband and I argued about putting him in the Sleeper because he didn't think it was safe.  I told him that not only was it made for sleeping but it also was at an incline making it easier for gassy babies to get comfortable and sleep.  And sleep he did. I have a 4 week old who sleeps 4-5 hours stretches at night and that, to me, is so lovely.  I wouldn't change it for the world.

I read that some moms were concerned about the fact that there is a hard plastic backing to the Rock n Sleeper that caused severe flat heads in their babies.  To remedy that I slipped a knitted baby blanket between the plastic backing and the cloth cover to make an extra cushiony place to sleep.  Oliver always looks so peaceful in his Sleeper.  Jason and I agree that it would be nice to have Oliver sleep in the bassinet in our room but I think that sleep is sleep and I especially need a lot of it!

Do you have sleeping problems like I do?  I visited Baby Bunk and found this co-sleeper.  I like that it allows you to keep baby close enough to hear them breathe all while allowing you to get a good night's sleep.  I could never sleep with baby in my bed for fear I would suffocate him but this seems like the PERFECT solution.  I like that it is made from wood which means that it can be recycled (or upcycled) which makes it an eco-friendly option in my book.  I am considering trying this product out especially since it can also be converted into a toddler bench!  Check it out and let me know what you think!
