Help Fight Childhood Obesity with ZESPRI +COACH GIVEAWAY!

TODAY is the DAY!  We start Oliver's Birthday Bash and I couldn't be more excited!  We have fun, games and prizes all month long.  Speaking of prizes, well, read this post and find out the bling you can win!

As a crunchy Mom who is extremely passionate about the environment and the health of my family, I am ALWAYS concerned about what my kids are doing and what they are eating.  I loathe the idea of them eating GMOs and I get sick to my stomach thinking about childhood cancer.  The truth is scary.  Every hour, 46 children are diagnosed with cancer in the US.  How crazy is that?!  A lot of this scary truth comes down to environmental causes and foods that are in our diet.  One cannot deny the connection between eating GMOs and getting sick {cancer}.

Childhood Obesity is also scary and I try to do everything in my power to ensure my children don't become a statistic.  Dexter has a voracious appetite and he eats everything.  He is the anti-picky eater.  I worry about him though because he is tall and broad for his age.  When we went to his school's first conference they told us that they often have to "cut him off" from eating.  That scared me....a lot!  I know the fruit and veggies aren't organic and lord knows about the rest.

Oliver, on the other hand, is an extremely tiny child who hates to eat.  He loves fruits, veggies and toast {mainly the real butter I use}.  He also loves beans.  I need to come up with fun recipes that involve beans but that's another blog post.

Childhood Obesity Statistics and Facts: In the US, approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese

That leads me to my exciting news and contest:

ZESPRI Kiwifruit, the world’s largest kiwifruit marketer, recently kicked off it's Kiwifruit for Kids campaign on Monday September 10th, 2012. The campaign, which enjoyed huge success last year, has chosen the following children’s health charities to represent the six regions of the United States to help raise awareness for childhood obesity: Treeswing, Chicago Run, I Can Foundation, Play Rugby USA, Louie’s Kids, and Live Well Colorado. Each charity’s mission is aligned with ZESPRI’s Kiwifruit for Kids campaign objective: to educate America’s youth on how to eat well and live active lifestyles.

The campaign, now available on both Facebook and micro-site (www.kiwifruitforkids.com) asks people to earn points for the charity and/or region of their choice by answering health trivia questions, exercising their kiwifruit characters daily, checking in to participating supermarkets via Facebook, exercising for an hour per day, and more. The charity that earns the most points by the end of the campaign on Sunday, October 21st wins $10K from ZESPRI; second place winner receives $5k and the remaining 4 charities win $1500 just for playing.

I encourage you to take a moment and head over to their Facebook page and Tweet or Share about the initiative to help put money into the hands of some amazing charities.

WHO IS READY TO WIN THIS ADORABLE COACH KIWI WRISTLET?!

My favorite way to stay fit is running. I have a hard time fitting it into my schedule, though.

I try to watch what I eat and I try to run at least 5 days a week. When I'm not running, I am trying to chase around a toddler, which in it's self is a major workout!
