Last month, I wrote about difficult life experiences. Weight loss through trying times isn't unheard of but it does take some patience. Today, I wanted to remind you that Life is all about the journey and not about the destination.
Lets just hypothetically say that you want to lose 20 pounds. Look at it as losing 20-1lbs rather than 20 as a whole. Thinking about it as the sum of all parts will help you feel more triumphant and help you celebrate the small achievements. When you have a goal sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the numbers and you may forget to reward yourself along the way.
There are a few ways that I like to reward myself when I meet weight loss goals. It would be counterintuitive if I rewarded myself with a special meal or a dessert so I stick to the fun things that I want. Recently, I bought a really nice bracelet set at Chiccos. It was originally $48 but with sales and a coupon, I got them for $7. I told myself that I cannot wear them until I lose another 20 pounds. There have been a few times in the last couple of weeks that I have wanted to wear them but I have to remind myself that earning them will make me appreciate them that much more.
July was the hardest month I have ever endured. I was a month into my heel injury and feeling pretty deflated, my best friend was killed in a tragic hit-and-run accident and I had to put my 11 year old dog down because he had kidney cancer. Lots of death and despair. Honestly, it was very hard for me to get through this month. I buried myself in work and tried not to think too much. I remained optimistic and I tried very hard to continue to be cheerful for my family. As of today, the last day of July, I managed to lose 4 pounds! This may not seem like an awful lot but since I can't walk "normal" yet and I was on-the-go a lot, I would say that it was a win. I also lost 3" in my waist!
