I once heard of a man taking a timeout from the internet and I immediately thought to myself "there is NO WAY I could do that!" I love the internet too much. I love checking my emails every 2 minutes, I love checking into Foursquare and I love being nosey on Facebook. So, it should be no surprise that when Jennifer James of the Mom Bloggers Club emailed to see if I wanted to take a Tech Timeout I thought she was kidding. Like come on, NO TECHNOLOGY!?! Well, I thought it over and applied because I thought it would be of great benefit to my kids. They always seem to have an iPad, DS or other gadget in their hands to occupy their time so one hour a day, for a week, should be fun--right?
This past Monday, we gave it a go. My husband laughed at me when I told him we were going to take one hour, each day this week, and go tech-less. I decided to spend this time with my Kindergartener so we could start a journal in which he will chronicle each day with his beginner-letters. This is not only beneficial to his handwriting skills but will also build muscles in his hands to aid in his now elementary school atmosphere. Lucky for me, Dexter is pretty rad and he didn't seem to mind my new idea. As a matter of fact he took to it pretty well! I can't wait to look back at this special notebook someday and not only remember the tech timeout but also how great his handwriting has progressed over the school year. See for yourself how well he is doing!
As you can see, for a beginning Kindergartner, his handwriting is pretty great *swoon*
This week, while I was working with Dexter on his handwriting, Jason was spending the time reading books to Oliver. Its not like we don't read to him much but I am sure he loved the one-on-one time with Daddy! Jason and I loved the quality time with the boys and we agreed that we would definitely do it a lot more often!
